I wish I could give this a five star, but I can only give it to three. The storyline was interesting, but the character Vanhorn himself is totally unbelievable. First of all you’re in a post space flight universe where the only thing you can do is patch people up with screws and pins? You would think that your medical technology would be more advanced. The other thing that I find unbelievable is that no person with such debilitating physical problems could do the things that the sergeant can do. Toby neighbors should’ve talk to veterans with injuries to get a more realistic approach to his character. In fact he should’ve left the fact that the character was crippled out of the storyline there could’ve been another reason drummed up for him being master of arms on a ship. The other silly thing was somebody’s going to try to kill you twice and you let them live no true marine or special operator is going to let that slide. The last thing is that you take away the superiority that humans have and give it to the enemy, I guess that’s good for tension building. If you can get past these issues you will probably like this type of story. This book and series is fairly fast paced. Least ways, the action scenes and the book’s chapters. Each book ends pretty much on a cliffhanger. While that normally results in bad reviews, for some reason this author is able blunt the ending edge of each book. Also the made up words in this series is actually decent and do not sound like an idiot regurgitated a bunch of random letters. Most scifi authors dont have the imagination to spontaneously create new words and phrases. All in all this series is worth the time and effort to read.
