2090 I have mixed emotions about this book. Overall, the story was good and yes, I was glad I read the prequel - available from the author when you sign up for her newsletter - Mission out of control. It did help give this story more grounding, but its not essential to read it. Where the prequel ends and this one begins, a bit of time has passed. Fair enough. Unfortunately, after only a few pages, the author had me thoroughly confused. Apparently Hunter has disappeared. Zeke moves closer to where he apparently was last and a guy by the name of Chase helps him look for Hunter. Only, it seems Chase is Hunter. That made no sense. Then they keep the fact that he has been found from the other guys because of his soon to be wife, Beatrice. Apparently she has gone through some stuff, but we are never told what. Considering that the book harps on how these guys are family, I found it inconceivable that they were not trustworthy enough to know Hunter / Chase had been found. That really confused me and distracted me from the story. I also found it odd that Jake, who was injured in the leg in the prequel, suddenly has a facial scar that is totally unexplained. It was with effort that I pushed passed it and continued. I'm glad I did because the rest of the story was fairly good, even though their 'I'm not going to get involved because...' got a bit tiresome. Still, I liked Zeke and Sam and her daughter is adorable. I also like the other guys. All the secrecy around Hunter / Chase comes to naught in the end when they suddenly with them at Zeke's house. I think the author needs to make some adjustments to that whole aspect of the story. It would also have been nice to have some info about what happened to the Payne's and the cousin. So yes, an enjoyable story despite the issues, but because of them...not a 5 star rating. However, I liked the others enough to want to read their stories as well.Update: if you read Vestige of Hope, then the beginning of this story makes sense. I started reading it earlier and most of the questions I had about Hunter and Chase, who is actually Hunter's brother, have been answered. However, that book is part of a different series. One shouldn't have to read a book from another series to understand this one.
